| Big Joe Egan |
Big Joe Egan is an Irish boxing champ and movie actor. He had his first fight at eleven, against the national junior champion Steve Collins, in which he said he got “completely battered”, but “I had a strong chin and big heart and that is what has worked for me ever since”. By the age of 24, the 6ft 1in fighter held an impressive record of 80 wins and 7 Irish titles to his name, as well as being a Golden Gloves champion. He went the distance with three times heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis and beat future WBA champion Bruce Seldon, before joining ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson’s training camp in the US, where he spent long hours in the ring as his sparring partner. Joe said that despite his best attempts, Tyson never put him down during training, eventually crowning him; “the toughest white man on the planet”.Joe’s gripping biography was published in January 2007, and describes some of the highs and lows of his life, in and out of the ring. Interspersed with some quirky anecdotes and a colorful insight into the boxing world, Big Joe's book is brought to life by the man himself at highly entertaining 'Audience With' evenings. Joe has appeared in 11 films to date, one of the biggest being Guy Ritchie’s interpretation of ‘Sherlock Holmes’ in which he stars alongside Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. The film was released on Boxing Day 2009 in the UK and was an instant hit. Contact us now to find out how you can book Big Joe to speak at your next after dinner occasion. Written by: Heidi Wardman |
