Debbie says: I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I came from a dysfunctional family that movies are made about...like so many others. The sport of archery as it turned out, became my saving grace and anchor, as the archery people became my support. At 14, I was a member of the U.S. Archery. I was the youngest ever to compete in international competition. As it turned out, I came in 8th . Archery taught me how to think and instilled the value in me that I could do anything I set my mind to and that mistakes can be corrected(with frequent reminders from my mother). At 18, I went into the US Navy, to get away from home, serve my country, and have the opportunity for an education. I served as a hospital corpsman, and managed to become one of two female urology technicians in the Navy at that time. This is where I began to understand the blessings and curses of diversity, but mostly the innate goodness of people. God love the USA; my military service paid for my college, where I fulfilled my long held dreams of becoming a registered nurse. My life like others, has been filled with both blessings and painful lessons. I am grateful for each and every one, as they have all served as lessons. I have been gifted with the ability to communicate and connect with people through teaching. When I speak I sometimes wonder where it is coming from. Then I remember it is from my best self, the one that instills grace. My first love is teaching. I intend to make a difference and work to my best at whatever I undertake; as long as I don't lose the intention I am successful. When I lose my faith I falter. Being able to touch people in a positive way, impact on their life, whether it is transient or permanent helps me stay grounded, in touch with what is important, and there you have my life's purpose. |
